God of Malice book review

God of Malice

by Rina Kent

As always with these types of books, there are some series trigger warnings that you should not take lightly, and this one tackles antisocial personality disorder and sexual assault.

THE CHARACTERS

A big complaint I have had through this series is that a lot of the male main characters are almost exactly the same and it gets repetitive. There are only so

many ways you can write a brooding dark guy. But I think that Killian expands on that and he definitely

expressed different traits than the rest. He has antisocial personality disorder and does not feel emotions like neurotypical people.

So the entire book is focused on him being confronted with things he has never felt before and how to navigate that in his head. It is definitely interesting and cool to read about. Out of all of the guys in the series I would say hes the most fucked up by far and thats really shown in his lack of feeling towards everything, even sometimes the main girl. But he was interesting to read about.

Glyndon is the stereotypical girl in a lot of these dark enemy to lovers series. An innocent on the outside girl who has demons in her closet and unexplored sexual desires. It shows her opening up and growing into her more dominant side while exploring her complicated feelings towards Killian. Even though it is basic and kind of repetitive, it goes well with Killians dark personality and tendencies. It's nice to see her exploring her complicated relationships between her friends and family and bringing back old characters that we know well while also introducing new ones.

The side characters were very obviously set up to have their own books, and it was fun seeing hints as to what might be going on in their personal relationships. Other than that though they were very surface level and you dont really hear from them much because the book is mostly centered around Killian and Glyndon.

THE PLOT

The plot was absolutely ridiculous, to the point where it was almost funny sometimes. It involves college level gangs and the Russian mafia, which is just such an insane mix. Also crazy initiations that are stupidly violent for no reason. I definitely recommend going into this book knowing not to take it that seriously, not think too much about it and just enjoy the sex.

The one thing that really bugged me was the plot twist at the end. I am not going to spoil anything but it really made no sense. There is no way that anyone would go that far for a stupid college “gang” even if they were insane. And even then, the plan made absolutely no sense and it's never actually explained. It really is just thrown in there for plot drama.

TO SUM UP

If you are going to read this book, go into it knowing that the primary focus on it is on sex and the enemies to lovers story line. The plot is very much in the background and so are the side characters. The plot doesn't make too much sense either, and there are some absolutely ridiculous parts of it as well. But you will get exactly what you are looking for and that made it a very entertaining read for me. I am absolutely embarrassed to admit that I read the whole thing in one night. Something about smut books man, they are addicting.
